Wormsloe Road - Georgia

by SP on September 3rd, 2007

wormsloe road

There is just something haunting about trees draped in Spanish Moss!! Apparently the road leads to the ruins of an old plantation. Now that’s what I want my driveway to look like leading up my house. It looks as if I’m going to have to move!

    Hi,
Living in Florida for 23 years, I see spanish moss all over the trees. The trees you see in your picture look very nice, but in a couple of years, those trees will have no leaves and just spanish moss. Some people say spanish moss doesn’t destroy trees, but for the life of me I can’t understand that theory when I look all around and trees are dead while still having the spanish moss spread all over them. Spanish moss spreads throughout the air with seeds. It seems the moss sucks the moisture out of the tree somehow and the leaves die. The trees look ugly when all is said and done and need to be cut down.
    Just a little fyi.

You make an excellent case Marian. You can tell that I don’t see Spanish Moss that often, but it would be such a shame to see those gorgeous trees die! I won’t be looking at it in quite the same light any longer. Thanks for informing us! :)
