We’re Going To Birmingham, Alabama!!

by SP on May 7th, 2007

I thought that I would start off with a little trivia. You aren’t going to believe this!! Apparently, The Birmingham Airport opened in 1931 and that time, it took 19 hours to fly from Birmingham to Los Angeles! Luckily it won’t take us anywhere near that amount of time these days. So, now onto what Birmingham has to offer!!
Alabama Statue of Liberty

Yes, Birmingham has its own Statue of Liberty and although a much smaller version that the “other one”, it’s well worth checking ou!

A bronze replica, one-fifth the size of the Statue of Liberty, was commissioned by Frank Park Samford as the symbol for the company he founded, Liberty National Life Insurance Company. Created by sculptors Archer and Lee Lawrie, the statue was cast in Sommerville Haut Marine, France, in 1956 and was placed atop Liberty National’s home office building in downtown Birmingham and then moved to its present location and dedicated on July 4, 1989.”

I thought that we would also visit a museum. I know that you are going to think that this is probably the last thing your kids are going to want to do, but trust me, you will be surprised. I took my kids to an art gallery in London and the kids weren’t overly impressed. But they soon changed their minds. They are still talking about some of the painting that they saw!

And lastly, I thought that I would send you somewhere really cool for coffee! The name is O’Henry’s, enjoy a cup and then order a bag of “Jamaica Me Crazy” to take with you!
