The Birmingham Zoo - Alabama

by SP on September 19th, 2007

feeding the animalsI can’t even begin to think of the number of zoos that we have visited over the years. It’s simply a great day out and there is something for everyone. And while you might think that all zoos are the same, you couldn’t be more wrong. Every zoo that I have visited has something unique to offer.

The Birmingham Zoo draws more than 450,000 visitors annually. Approximately 750 animals of 250 species call the 122-acre Birmingham Zoo home, including sea lions, cheetahs and endangered species from six continents.

Some must sees at the Birmingham Zoo

*the pelicans and flamingos

*everyone loves the sea lion ;)

*lions and zebras (would love to bring home a couple of babies for pets ;)

*snakes… wouldn’t want to bring any of those home. I would happily skip the exhibit but husband and daughter loves this area.

*how about a 400 pound gorilla… would love a baby gorilla as a pet too. Simply adorable!! But there is the problem of them growing up. Same with the lions and zebras. Not sure what you do with them when they reach their full size!

If you plan to visit this zoo, be sure to check out the events page. You will find “what’s happening” for the month… and there’s lots!!
