Tales from the Road: There’s Always Time for a Seafood Dinner While at the Beach

During the last evening of my Hilton Head Island, S.C., getaway, I enjoyed the much required seafood dinner. Honestly, you can’t leave any beach with having seafood at least once (or in my case, many times.)

August31HiltonHeadIslandPhotos 007 One of my favorite places is the Old Oyster Factory. August31HiltonHeadIslandPhotos 023One thing unique about the restaurant is that it’s built on the location of an old oyster cannery. You also can’t get any better than here when it come to views from the restaurant. The style of the restaurant allows for water views  and sunset watching.

When it comes to the menu, the appetizer choices include steamed shrimp ($9.99/half pound; $17.99/pound), steamed clams ($8.99), or crab cake ($11.99). If you don’t overdo it on appetizers, there’s soups and salads. It was my lucky evening, because the salad special was a tomato salad August31HiltonHeadIslandPhotos 016that included slices of vine ripe tomatoes, Vidalia onions and mozzarella. Truthfully, I could have made a meal out of that and the hush puppies. August31HiltonHeadIslandPhotos 015

Entrees feature a crab cake dinner ($25.99), fresh broiled sea scallops ($24.99), and chargrilled salmon ($20.99). For the non-seafood eaters, there’s chargrilled chicken breast ($17.99), Filet Mignon ($32.99), and ribeye ($31.99).

August31HiltonHeadIslandPhotos 017 If it’s oysters you are craving, consider either one of the oven baked August31HiltonHeadIslandPhotos 019Oysters Rockefeller ($8.99/half dozen; $15.99/dozen), or Oysters Savannah ($8.99/half dozen; $15.99/dozen). Can’t decide? Order a combination ($8.99/half dozen; $15.99/dozen).

You can also get raw oysters and the Old Oyster Factory has a variety of them.

The restaurant also has a kids menu and a dessert menu, of course only if you have any room left after dinner.
