]]> Everyone loves a good deal. Whether it be discounted concert tickets or 1/2 price meal deals, why pass it up? It just takes a little preplanning on your part. Here are some of my favorite sites. Most of them are based in South Florida, but some are nationwide.

  • South Florida Dines:  This website offers half price dining certificates to area restaurants. Look for your old favorites or try a new place out. Search by city or alphabetically. They include information on the restaurant, times, location, upcoming events, etc. Here are two of my  favorites: Palm Beach Prime is a perfect site to check out if you are looking for the ultimate at home dining experience. They offer a selection of Kobe beef burgers, Bell and Evans Chicken, exotic meats and more. John Bull English Pub offers a taste of traditional English Pub fare in a friendly, authentic setting. Try out your karaoke skills on Wednesday nights. You can order online, but it takes between 1-4 days to receive the certificate in the mail.
  • Restaurant.com: $25 gift certificates for only $10. They offer this deal in restaurants nationwide. Try out Cacao in Coral Gables for amazing contemporary Latin American cuisine. Print off the certificate right off the Internet and you can use it that night.
  • GoGoBOGO: Offers half price certificates to various restaurants and other retail locations between Boca and Vero. If you are looking for authentic French cuisine in a chic atmosphere, check out Metronome located on PGA Boulevard.
  • Dining With Dave – South Florida Dining Deals: Offering $50 dining certificates for only $25 for some of the top restaurants in the area. Every Thursday at 9:50 am, a new restaurant is featured. This Thursday, Spoto’s Oyster Bar will be in the line up. Think — pretzel crusted grouper and macadamia nut crusted dolphin.
  • While you’re in the mood for good food, why not check out Miami Spice (August – September), Dine Out Lauderdale (October 1 – November 15) and Flavor Palm Beach (September 1 -30). Each offers specials on a 3 course prix fixed menu at area restaurants at 30-65% off the regular price.

]]>  I did a post a few days ago titled Think Globally, Eat Locally stressing the importance of supporting local farmers and thus, resulting in better nutrition. Therefore, I thought it was a perfect follow up to introduce you to a new restaurant in Washington D.C. called Founding Farmers.

Founding Farmers highlights the importance of The American Family Farmer. Their goal is to celebrate the land and the farmers by promoting sustainable agriculture. You can be assured that everything you eat at the restaurant is prepared from fine, high quality farm food that is local, organic and is sustainably farmed. In a time, where you might question everything that you put into your body, you can trust the practices here whole-heartedly.

]]> There is never a wrong time for a road trip. Packing the car up and venturing out with a group of loved ones can be the best experience that can happen to you. Good friends, good food and good conversation add to the experience. While some people don’t like to make plans, but rather see where their trip may take them, others want to make sure they experience the best a particular area has to offer. For those who like to plan ahead or at least know what they are getting themselves into in regards to food and dining, I’ve just discovered a book that is essential while traveling through Florida by car.

Meals Worth Stopping for in Florida: Local Restaurants Within 10 Miles of the Interstate is a must have for those traveling gourmands. The Gourmettes, Nancy Barber and Jane Bolder have surveyed a 10-mile radius along the major interstate in Florida. They have discovered more than 100 local favorites that the typical tourist would never have known existed. Their highlighted destinations include where the locals go to find the best seafood, barbecue, soul food, steaks, sandwiches, Key Lime Pie and more. Better yet, you barely have to take a detour off your chosen path. The restaurants are arranged by interstate and the books includes clear directions from the interstate.
