Sad story coming out of Virginia today.
” It’s the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, surpassing the 24 people killed in Killeen, Texas, in 1991. In that incident, George Hennard drove his pickup truck into a Luby’s Cafeteria and shot 23 people to death before killing himself.” I will keep you updated as the day goes on.

Altered channel causing Louisiana coast to disappear

Altered channel causing Louisiana coast to disappear

“Victimized by Hurricane Katrina in August of 2005, Watson and other longtime residents here admit they’ve given up on rebuilding in this low-lying neighborhood bordered by the powerful waters of Lake Ponchartrain and the Mississippi River.
The reasons are understandable: Too much reliance on man-made structures that might collapse again in the next big storm; the forces of nature are just too risky. ”
A sad, sad story for the long time residends and the wildlife that also called the area home.

Big Stone Gap, Virginia

Big Stone Gap, Virginia

The name of the town was what first caught my attention. And then when I arrived, I found that they had a coal museum. So, why do you care??
“Because coal mining, to a large extent, defines the area–how people live, where they work, and how they think and feel. The Coal Museum was put together, bit by bit and piece by piece, from the mini treasure troves and memorabilia of private homes and public buildings from Big Stone Gap and surrounding towns. For natives, the museum attempts to describe a personal heritage …read more

5 Things I Didn’t Know About South Carolina

5 Things I Didn’t Know About South Carolina

1. Before being known as the Palmetto State, South Carolina was known as, and had emblazoned on their license plates, the Iodine State.
2. The Stumphouse Mountain Tunnel was started in 1856 by a railroad company and is bored for more than a mile into the granite heart of fabled Stumphouse Mountain. 3. Sweetgrass basket making has been a part of the Mount Pleasant community …read more
