There is no excuse for anyone in the region to say,”I’m bored,” or “There’s nothing to do.” Just because summer is gone, doesn’t mean the fun is. Trust me when I say there’s is a lot to do. Just take a look at some of these events, and I guarantee you’ll soon be saying, “I can’t decide what to do this weekend!”
- Traveling to Arkansas? Then don’t miss the 17th Annual Hot Springs JazzFest taking place on September 12-14. The event features performances by musicians from around the state.
- In Alabama, you’ll find Alabama Highway 14 Antique Trail, on September 12-13 that highlights antique dealers and more along a 200-mile stretch. In Montgomery, celebrate Hank Williams Sr.’s 85th Birthday on September 12.
- It’s never too early to celebrate Oktoberfest! This weekend kicks off the two month-long celebration in Helen, Ga. Over in Lavonia, there’s the much popular Clem’s Shoal Creek Music Park Bluegrass Festival that begins on September 11, and continues through the weekend. The festival features around 30 bluegrass musical acts.
- The Carolina Mountains Literary Festival is taking place in Burnsville, N.C., on September 12-13. The event highlights regional authors and writings.
- Fort Royal, Va., is the site for the Warren County Balloon & Airstravaganza happening September 12-14. Expect a weekend filled with balloon launches, fly-ins, demos and more.
- The Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park in Summersville, WVa., is hosting a Civil War Living History Weekend. Listen and watch as re-enactors take you back to Civil War camp life.
- If you enjoy anything related to military history, Maryland is your destination this weekend. The 146th Antietam Anniversary is scheduled for September 13-14. Taking place at the Pry House Field Hospital Museum on the Antietam National Battlefield in Keedysville, the event includes Civil War-related demonstrations and exhibits. In Baltimore City on September 12-14, is Defenders’ Day: A Star-Spangled Banner Weekend, a re-enactment of the War of 1812. Happening at the Fort McHenry National Monument & Historic Shrine, it includes demonstrations, a concert and fireworks.
