Congrats to Caladesi Island State Park in the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area. Dr. Beach named it the #1 Beach in America for 2008. 
Other ranked beaches in the south include: #3 Siesta Beach, Sarasota, Fla.; #8 Cape Hatteras in N.C.; #9 Cape Florida State Park, Key Biscayne, Fla.; and #10 Kiawah Island, S.C.
- Biloxi, Miss., was named the seventh best destination in the world for gamblers according travelers who participated in a recent TripAdvisor.com survey. The city of Biloxi is home to eight casinos, including Hard Rock Biloxi and Beau Rivage.
- Things are happening in Carolina Beach, N.C. The Film and Fireworks Series begins on May 25 and runs every Sunday through the summer. On June 7, enjoy the 23rd Annual Pleasure Island Beach Music Festival featuring beach music bands from the South.
- Enjoy a “totally turtle” experience at LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort in Naples, Fla. For the past three years, the property has partnered with the Conservancy of Southwest Florida in an effort to protected Flo
rida’s prized residents - the sea turtles. Guests - adults and children - are educated about sea turtles during the season, which is May - October. Guests will even find in their rooms a cuddly, stuffed sea turtle that can be purchased for $15, a portion of the fee goes to the Conservancy.
