- TripAdvisor has recently come out with its list of the 2008 Travelers’ Choice Destinations Awards. This highlights the 100 best destinations in the world from users’ recommendations. Four southern cities made the cut: New Orleans, La. at #6, Charleston, S.C. at #18, Austin, Texas at #24, and Washington D.C. at #25.
- And speaking about Charleston, Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina is offering a GasNGo package. Book two or more nights and receive a $25 gas card to help battle the pain at the pump. Another bonus of staying here is that you can leave your car parked for the duration and either take the complimentary trolley or water taxi ($8/roundtrip).
- Red Bud Manor in Eureka Springs, Ark., has a package geared toward eco-conscience travelers. The Carbon Neutral Package includes trolley passes for two (to save on gas when exploring the city), donation to the Natural Resources Defense Council and a package of compact florescent bulbs to take home.
- The May 2008 issue of Smithsonian magazine features stand-out places to explore in North America. In the “Destination America” section, southern city Silver Springs, Fla. is highlighted. Also included is Rayne, La., home to the annual Frog Festival.
