New Orleans Mardi Gras

by SP on April 6th, 2006

mardi gras“Mardi Gras” means “Fat Tuesday.” Traditionally, it is the last day for Catholics to indulge—and often overindulge—before Ash Wednesday starts the sober weeks of fasting that come with Lent. Formally known as Shrove Tuesday, Mardi Gras has long been a time of extravagant fun for European Christians. In fact, some people think Mardi Gras celebrations have their source in the wild springtime orgies of the ancient Romans.”

If nothing else, I want to check out their cuisine. I hear it is pretty awesome! I’m just realizing that I really don’t get out a lot!! I am going to have to do a bit of digging about these special cakes they have. Who says that you have to live down there to try out some of these desserts!!
