Link of the Day - Fort Pulaski
For some reason, not all people like to shop during their vacation. Don’t ask me why… but it seems that some people would rather visit sites like this. Just kidding. Fort Pulaski looks as if it would be a great place to visit if you are in South Carolina. Actually, there is something for everyone, including me!!
The kids can become Junior Rangers. It takes about an hour to complete the requirements… and they will have fun doing it and won’t even realize that they are learning stuff!!
For those of you who would simply like to kick back and do a bit of bird watching, there’s about a zillion for you to watch out for. And a lot of them you won’t likely spot elsewhere because they are protected at the fort.
And here is something that would appeal to my husband… the reptiles. “The most common snakes at Fort Pulaski are the yellow rat snake, black rat snake, corn snake and Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake, of which only the Eastern Diamondback is poisonous. Rat snakes may surface at times inside Fort Pulaski itself. ” I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for the rat snakes. Just not fond of snakes I’m afraid.
And if you are in the area at the end of the summer, this might interest you… “To celebrate the end of the summer season, Fort Pulaski invites you to attend a special one-day “Blue vs. the Gray” Celebration on Saturday, September 1, 2007. Activities will include cannon firings, skirmish drills, soldier talks, and guided fort tours. The highlight of the day will be an 1862-style baseball game between members of the 48th New York and the 8th Georgia Regiments.”
And for those of you who love picnics, the fort provides large, well shaded picnic grounds to enjoy. And I never got around to mentioning the trails. The Lighthouse Trail looks particularly interesting.
Sounds like the perfect day’s outing to me. :)
