Let’s Go to the Mountains: See Rock City in Lights
Who would have ever thought some of the best advertising on be on top of a barn roof? Rock City, six miles outside of Chattanooga, Tenn., is probably best known for its unique advertising technique used years ago. Those icons, the red barns with black roofs and white letters, are as Americana as the Burma Shave signs that once dotted the highways. Even today, you can still see a few painted barns encouraging folks to visit Rock City.
Even if you have never seen one of the painted barns, you know that Rock City is famous for its gardens and well as the panoramic views of “seven states“.
Opened in 1932, the attraction still appeals to visitors of all ages. As one of the oldest attractions in the South, Rock City is one of those places you have to experience for yourself, and you will be glad you did.
During the holiday season, the 75 year old attraction turns into a winter wonderland of lights at night, featuring over 25 holiday scenes. From November 17 through January 6, around 500,000 lights illuminate the Enchanted Trail during the 13th annual Enchanted Garden of Lights. Word to the wise - be prepared to walk, dress warmly, and don’t forget your camera.
In addition to the lights, there’s ample shopping opportunities, entertainment, crafts, food, hot cocoa and food. Little ones (and big ones) can also get their photo taken with Santa.
Start a new tradition this holiday season with Rock City’s Enchanted Garden of Lights. If you can’t make it there during the holiday season, the attraction hosts various events throughout the year.

I’ve spent many a summer in NW Georgia - and lots of time on Lookout Mountain. Rock City has always been a fun place to visit and now I see another excuse to go. My only problem is that each time I stick my nose north of I-10 in the winter, some “storm of the century” pops up out of nowhere to remind me why I live in Florida.
