Labor Day Weekend Events in Maryland and D.C.
Not too much longer until the holiday weekend will be upon us! Now this begs the question, have you made any plans yet? Well, you still have time and if you happen to be in the Maryland and D.C. area, there are a number of events you can choose from.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
In Maryland
- It’s all about the crabs, that is hard crabs during the 61st Annual National Hard Crab Derby and Fair in Crisfield, Md., on August 29-31. So, just what can one expect? There’s a crab cooking contest, a hard crab derby race and a crab picking contest. Other events include carnival rides and games, and live entertainment.
- Were you aware that jousting is Maryland’s official state sport?
Well, you can celebrate it on August 30 at the 142nd Annual Calvert County Jousting Tournament. Aside fro the tournament, the event also includes a bazaar and a onsite supper.
- Sail along the Chesapeake Bay on September 1, and learn the history of three lighthouses during the Bay Lighthouses Cruise. During the two and a half hour journey, a turn-of-the-century lighthouse keeper will educate and keep you entertained as he tells of the background of the lighthouses.
In D.C.
- If you’re a blues fans, be sure to check out the 20th Annual DC Blues Festival on August 30. Enjoy a day and night of recognized blues performers.
- Cap off the summer by attending
the National Symphony Orchestra’s Labor Day Concert on August 31. This free event will be held on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol.
