Labor Day Weekend Events in Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia

by Apryl on August 25th, 2008

If you find yourself in the deep south, that is Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia, during Labor Day weekend, don’t worry because there is A LOT going on. Whether you like food festivals, fireworks or laser shows, you’ll find it in this region.

Here’s a short list to get your started:

In Alabama

  • It seems to be all about the food during the holiday. In Burkville, you can celebrate okra during the friedokrathebittenword Annual Okra Festival on August 30. The day-long festival features locally grown produce and other food,  live music, arts and crafts, and children’s activities. Have your fill of sweet taters at the 12th Annual Sweet Tater Festival in Crane Hill is scheduled for August 31 - September 1. Don’t forget about the Butterbean Festival on August 30 in Pinson that includes a butterbean recipe contest and cornbread cook-off.

In Tennessee

  • On August 31, you can enjoy the largest firework show in the nation at the 2008 ChryslerJeep Boomsday Festival in Knoxville on August 31. The event also features a family fun zone area, fly-bys, concerts and more.

  • It’s all about the abstractguitarChris_J  music in Memphis, and that’s certainly true on August 30-31 during the Memphis Music and Heritage Festival. While five stages feature a variety of music, there’s also music workshops and seminars as well. Of course, you can’t talk about Memphis (or the South) without mentioning food. Don’t miss out on the cooking stage.

In Georgia

  • There is never a dull moment in the metro area, especially during a holiday weekend. Atlanta’s calendar is filled with all types of Labor Day events and activities.

  • If you are in the mood for an active, educational and of course, fun Labor Day weekend experience, consider celebrating at any of the Georgia State Parks.
