If I hear of another charge that the airlines are adding on, I’m going to …

With all the charges that airlines have been adding on lately, it’s hard to keep on top of everything. From charging passengers for anything from a soda to a pillow, you never know when you are going to be asked to pay that additional fee. Here’s a rundown of what you can expect (though it seems to be changing daily.. are we really going to be charged to use our frequent flier miles now? ).
- Jet Blue: They do charge for the famous $7 for a blanket and pillow, but your first bag checked is free, as well as free soft drinks and unlimited snacks are served. If you do decide to change your ticket, you will be charged $100.
- Southwest: “Fees don’t fly with us.” This seems to be the one of the only major airline where you won’t find extra fees everywhere you turn. There is no extra charge for your first bag, for drinks or blankets.
- Delta: Free drinks and blankets are offered. There is no charge on the first bag, the second is between $25-$50 and the fee to change your flights remains at $100.
- Northwest: You will pay $15 for your first checked bag and $25 for the second. Non-alcoholic drinks and blankets are still free, but snacks and other food items range from $3 - $10. If you’d like to change your flight though, you will be charged $150.
- American: Change your flight and you will be forking over $150. Your 1st and 2nd bags checked in will cost you between $15 and $25. Soda and blankets are still free.
- United: You will be paying $15 to $25 for your checked bags and $150 if you decide to change your flight.
- US Airways: They seem to get your everywhere here - $2 for soda or water, $1 for coffee or tea, checked bags $15 - $25, and flight changes are $150.
Be careful that you know what you are getting into, as when you think you’ve found a great deal, it might not be the case after you come on board.
