Gothic Graveyard Walk - Tampa Bay, Florida
“Historian and actress Maureen Patrick can help you ’see’ dead people in an entirely different way–through the eyes of Miss Prudence Fipwhistle (11855-1899). As president of the Tampa Historical Society, Patrick has studied up on the deceased in Oaklawn Cemetery so she can educate kids aged seven and up and adults about who is buried below. The tour isn’t intended to frighten, but participants will learn some bizarre facts about the Victorian-era graveyard and its inhabitants, including 13 mayors, veterans of seven wars and victims of five yellow fever epidemics. The tour is free, but a $5 donation to the Tampa Historical Society is suggested. — Riki Altman (Photo: Historical Society of Tampa)
Now this sounds interesting. Actually I would never have thought of conducting a tour such as this, but I’m sure that every town has interesting people buried in their graveyards. And you have to admit that a Victorian era graveyard in October just adds something delicious to the mix.
