Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun in the South

pumpkincloseup Okay, it’s two days until Halloween, and you STILL don’t know what you doing this weekend.

Well, it’s not too late to partake in some “spooky” activities around the region. Need some last minutes ideas? Here some to consider.

How ’bout bunking with ghosts: So, you all ready know about the ghostly happenings as such places as the Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs, Ark., Hotel Galvez In Galveston, Texas, and Myrtle Plantation in St. Francisville, La. But, do you know about the “Pink Lady” at the Grove Park Inn & Spa in Asheville, N.C., or how about the Colonel Tutwiler who still walks the property of the Tutwiler Hotel in Birmingham, Ala.?

Watch out for many “guests” that just won’t check out of The Driskill in Austin, Texas. And speaking of Texas, if you really want to be spooked, head to Menger Hotel in San Antonio to learn about their haunts. Don’t forget about Historic Ott Hotel in Liberty, Texas. For a fee, you can conduct your own investigate and/or tour into the property’s “otherworld.”

Discover the doctor ghost that that loves to play jokes on guests at The Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The Don CeSar  Beach Resort in St. Petersburg, Fla., offers a history tour that provides into its ghostly guests. There is said to be 13 ghosts that haunt the Island Hotel and Restaurant (interesting, 13) in Cedar Key, Fla.

What is it about the beach and ghosts? Jekyll Island Club Hotel in Jekyll Island, Ga., has its share of ghost guests as well.

Spend time in the spook-filled outdoors: You know, the best place to discover “things that go bump in the night” is the outdoors. So vast, so dark; well, you get the idea.

Take the Halloween Hike at Pinnacle Mountain State Park in Little Rock, Ark. on October 31.

Learn about the many spirits during Live Oaks & Dead Folks Cemetery Tour in Columbus, Texas conducted on October 31 and November 1.

In Louisiana, you can take the Tickfaw Water Taxi Halloween Moonlight Cruise in St. Amant on October 31.

Gather around the campfire in Fort Payne to hear spooky ghost stories during the Ghosts on the Mountain at DeSoto State Park on October 31.

Discover haunted hayrides, ghost walks and spooks - oh my!: It’s not Halloween unless there a haunted hayride and/or ghost walks. You have to wonder while you’re enjoy the events - is the chill you feel really the wind or something else?

Explore the haunted Depot and take the haunted hayride in Ringgold, Ga., on October 31.

Ride Haunted Hill Hayride (not for the young or the easily scared) at Victoria Bryant State Park near Franklin Springs, Ga.

Choose from the haunted mine and/or ghost stories during the 26th Annual Bloody Reign of the Mad Miner in Midland, N.C.

Listen as guides share stories of local ghosts during Night of the Fright Ghost Tours conducted by Wilkes Heritage Museum in Wilkesboro, N.C.

And don’t forget to refer back to last week’s calendar, since many of those events are also scheduled for October 31 and November 1.
