Vulcan Park Birmingham, Alabama
If you want a little down time while vacationing, you might want to visit Vulcan Park. No, it doesn’t have anything to do with Star Trek, but the Roman god of fire. It has stood over the city since 1904. Be sure that you take the elevator to the observation deck that sits on a 124 foot pedestal so that you can take in the gorgeous view!
“Vulcan Park and Museum is home to the world’s largest cast iron statue and features spectacular panoramic views of Birmingham. We tell the story of Birmingham’s past, present and promise for the future. Take a virtual tour of Vulcan Park and Museum.
The history of Vulcan is deeply tied to Birmingham’s roots and its growth. Vulcan, the Roman god of fire and forge, was originally built in 1904 and has stood as a symbol of Birmingham for over 100 years. After a four-year renovation, Vulcan Park and Museum reopened to the public in 2004 and welcomed over 100,000 visitors its first year!”
