Beware of Poison Sumac

by SP on August 23rd, 2006

Just one of many poisonous plants that you will find through out the southern states. If you are familiar with the symptoms of poison ivy, it’s pretty much the same.

“Found throughout the southern states east of the Mississippi River but limited in distribution to very moist areas; bogs, pocosins, wet pine barrens and stream borders.”

And this is what it looks like!poison sumac

But strangely enough, it doesn’t affect everyone. Some people seem immune to the plant. But I would avoid it anyway. Nothing can ruin a holiday faster than intense itching.
