Allandale Mansion, Tennessee

by SP on November 6th, 2006

allandale mansionPeople always ask me if there could be a house that was simply too big? Well hardly. You could give me a house as large as the Allandale mansion and I would find a way to fill the rooms. It wouldn’t be hard at all. Actually, I would have to take a closer look, but chances are, I could do it with my eyes closed. It must have something to do with collecting things. Yes, I have this problem tossing things out. But on to the details of the mansion…

“Intriguing history and southern elegance create the romantic setting of Kingsport’s Allandale Mansion, often called Kingsport’s “White House.” Built in 1950 by Ruth and Harvey Brooks, Allandale still houses their fine furnishings, antiques and art.

Allandale Mansion was willed to the City of Kingsport in 1969. It is a classic example of Georgian architecture with four chimneys, a hipped roof and formal fireplaces in the main rooms. In true Georgia style, a grand curved wooden staircase dominates the mansion’s foyer.

Since 1983, the house and grounds have been an exciting part of Kingsport’s civic and social life. Now, the mansions easy access to all points of interest and leisure activities in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia makes it a favorite spot for elegant weddings and receptions, bridal showers and rehearsal dinners.”

Can you imagine a more fairytale like setting for your wedding? No wedding on the horizon? You can still rent out the home for a dinner party or an anniversary. Hmmm, my anniversary is coming up on the 18th of December. Might be just the place to hold that special day. And it will be our 30th! I still can’t believe that we have been married that long! Come to think about it, I don’t know anyone who has been married that long! I wonder if we will get a card from the queen??
