A Victorian Christmas at Maymont
You don’t have to fly over to England to enjoy a Victoria Christmas. You can do just that in Richmond, Virginia!
They are offering “Victorian activities, living history demonstrations, the Maymont Holiday Shop and visits with Father Christmas and other Victorian characters. Carolers and bell ringers serenade the crowds with the sounds of the season.”
Now doesn’t that room look perfect for the holiday season? It’s almost like stepping back in time. I wonder what it would be like?
And Father Christmas… if that isn’t Victorian, I don’t know what is! And you know where I will be spending most of my time… in the holiday shop! You can never have too many goodies to decorate at this time of year!

I visited the Maymont House this year for Christmas, 2007, and I was truely amazed at the beauty of the decorations and the history of how the Dooley’s spent their holidays. I enjoyed the tour immensley. I purchased a pickle ornament in which I learned about the tradition of. I recently got married in October of 2007 in the Japanese Gardens and I wanted to have an ornament to put on my tree this year to start the beginning of our marriage together at Christmas time and to remember our wonderful day getting married in the beautiful Japanese Gardens. I would highly recommend for anyone to be married in the gardens. My husband and I plan on going back each and every year at Christmas to enjoy the decorations and beauty of Maymont. It will be a tradition for us for many years to come. I do have a recommendation for Maymont at Christmas though. I think it would be nice if there were replica ornaments sold each year like the ones the Dooley’s had on their trees, so everyone could have a choice of ornaments to place on their trees. I know personally, I would purchase a different one each year to put on my tree. I think it would also help in raising more money to take care of Maymont. I understand the only ornament that they sell is the pickle, in which is a unique ornament, and the history behind it is wonderful, but having different ornaments to choose from would be nice too. It’s my opinion, but hope it would be considered in years to come. Thanks again for a lovely tour of the Christmas mansion, and I wanted to also thank the lady giving us the tour on a wonderful job explaining the house to us. I can’t remember her name, but she had an English accent.
Thank you!
