5 Places I Want to Check Out… in the Georgia
Rhodes Hall
Built in 1904, Rhodes Hall has been an Atlanta landmark for generations. While it was originally the residence of Rhodes Furniture founder Amos Rhodes, today it is a house museum and one of the most unique spots for social and corporate events. The upper floors of the “castle on Peachtree” are also headquarters for The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation. Take a tour of the house and learn more about its history. Details
“The 18,000-square-foot mansion spans four levels and is crowned by a three-story cupola. Commissioned by imaginative owners and constructed by the most skillful workers of the time, its technological amenities were unsurpassed in the mid-19th century: hot and cold running water, central heat, a speaker-tube system, in-house kitchen and an elaborate ventilation system.”
Can you imagine 18,000 square feet??

The ca. 1937 Lee Playhouse is located along the path between McElreath Hall and the back entrance of the Atlanta History Museum and is open to play by children of all ages.
The playhouse was originally built by Charles R. Roberts, an Atlanta businessman, for his daughter. Like many real homes, the playhouse was expanded during the years; in fact, the rear addition was built for a later owner’s cat. This playhouse remained in the same location for more than 60 years, until John Lee, the current owner of the Woodward Way home, donated it to the Atlanta History Center in 1998.
Sixty years after Atlanta’s destruction in the Civil War, a limited prosperity had returned to the city. The Swan House is an example of how one prominent family lived during the 1920s and 1930s.
