Holiday Traditions in the South: The Enchanted Garden of Lights at Rock City
You know about Rock City’s breathtaking views during the day, just imagine what it looks like at night when it’s all lit up.
Rock City is glowing for the holidays with over 1 million lights and other holiday-themed displays. Opened Friday, November 21 and running through January 3, to is the 14th annual Enchanted Garden of Lights.
“(It) takes Rocky City Gardens to a whole new level,” says Bill Chapin, president of Rock City. “The unique rock formations and views from the bluffs and bridges are not available to anyone in the area except for Rock City.”
The concept was created about 14 years ago as Rock City noticed the popularity of other similar events at nearby attractions. Yet, what separates
Enchanted Garden of Lights from its competition has to the setting that Chapin mentions above.
Displays and lights include everything from the whimsical side of the holidays with elves to nutcrackers to the more serious side with a Nativity scene the retells the story of the birth of Jesus.
In addition to the lights, the Enchanted Garden features nightly entertainment and visits from Santa Claus as well. You can also decorate a cookie or enjoy some cocoa while taking in the sights. New this year is the Sugar Plum Fairy Makeover (additional cost), where children can have their face painted and/or dress up like magical fairies for the night.
“The music, food and setting makes Rock City’s Enchanted Garden of Lights one of the South’s most visited and enjoyed holiday events,” says Chapin.
