From festivals to free things to do, there is always something going on in the region. With so many options, the hardest part is deciding on what to do.
- Saturday, August 2 is the 39th Annual Funday and Possum Festival in Wausau, Fla. Located about 10 miles south of the I-10 exit in Chipley, the festival takes place at the Possum Palace. Events include arts and crafts festival, live entertainment and possum delicacies.
- Ending on August 3, you can still catch part of the 51st North Carolina Mineral, Gem and Jewelry Festival in Spruce Pine, N.C. The festival includes demonstrations, exhibits, tours and more.
- When it comes to travel, who isn’t looking for a bargain these days. Readers’ Digest’s Land of the Free Vacations offers some good ideas, featuring some places in the south.
- For men only: Casablanca Inn in St. Augustine is holding a special contest, Keeping the Romance Alive, where they want to you how you keep the flame burning. What’s in it for you? Well, the grand prize is a three-night getaway for Casablanca Inn’s Secret Garden, the property’s little secret. All you need to do is to write 150 words about you keep the romance alive and mail it to the inn no later than November 1, 2008.
- Over 25 hotels/resorts in the Jacksonville, Fla., area are offering special rates/packages good through September 30. Some of the deals include stay with Embassy Suites Jacksonville’s “Suite Tax Rebate” and receive a $40 gas card. There are also various deals/coupons available for the area’s restaurants, activities and attractions.
- Experience a little of Italy in Tontitown, Ark., during the 110th Annual Tontitown Grape Festival on August 5 – 9. The festival features grape stomps, Italian spaghetti dinners, arts and crafts fair and more.
- Pelion, S.C. is home to the 27th Annual South Carolina Peanut Party set for August 7-9. The event includes carnival rides, a crafts show, entertainment and of course, peanuts.
- Who doesn’t enjoy a good lobster? Celebrate this tasty crustacean (with butter) at Lobsterfest in Key West, Fla., August 8-10. The three-day event includes live entertainment, arts and crafts and lots of lobster.
