Up and Away: Huntsville, Ala. to Celebrate 50th Anniversary of America in Space

Did you know that the (once) small town of Huntsville, Ala., was the birthplace of the U.S. space program? It was in at Marshall Space Flight Center that the rocket was built that put America in space on Jan.31, 1958 and also built the Saturn V rocket that put man on the moon in 1969.

The city is celebrating the 50th anniversary with panel discussions, exhibits and symposiums open to the public beginning January 22 and runs through February 2. On January 31, join Walter Cronkite as the city unveils the Davidson Center for Space Exploration that will house the Saturn V Moon Rocket.
