Let’s Go to the Mountains: Ruby Falls
If you are still tooling around Chattanooga, you have to visit Ruby Falls. This particular attractions falls under the "I can’t believe it" category -and that’s just with the history alone.
What exactly makes Ruby Falls unique? Definitely has to be a waterfall. Don’t say that you have seen many waterfalls, and yes, even this Southerner knows that Niagara Falls is quite spectacular; however, this 145-foot waterfall is located 1,120 feet beneath the mountain.
The guided
tour is an adventure itself – a good one, that is. Along the way, you will see numerous stalactites and rock formations, many with fun names.
Believe it or not, one of the best times to visit Ruby Falls is on a rainy day. Sounds odd, but the rain, which has been quite scare in the South lately, actually increases the water flow.
If you decide to visit on a sunny day, don’t forget the Lookout Mountain Tower. Located at over 1,500 feet above sea level, you can’t beat the views (and photo oops) of the Valley and downtown Chattanooga.
During the holidays, don’t miss out on Deck the Falls. From November 16 – January 5, you can enjoy holiday music, light show and every Saturday night, a special lantern tour.
