Traveling Southern Byways Today
A little trivia for a Sunday afternoon…
The last time I bought four bottled Margaritas, no one asked to see any identification and I didn’t think anything of it, but all of that is about to change in the State of Tennessee. The next time you try to buy beer in that state, be prepared to show your I.D. because you are going to be asked, regardless of your age. But what I found particularly strange about this is the fact that it does not apply to anything other than beer! More on the story
Things to See in North Carolina…
If you drive though North Carolina and you think that you have spotted a lot of tobacco farms, you are probably right. North Carolina is the largest producer of tobacco which is worth $1.2 billion. And it is thought that the industry is going to grow even more thanks to new laws. “You’re dealing with larger farms than ever in tobacco,” said Loren Fisher, an extension tobacco specialist. “The big growers are getting bigger.” More on the story
Today’s Favorite Cookbook

“More than 150 recipes range from the traditional–Spicy Green Tomato and Peach Relish, Spoonbread, and Pickled Shrimp–to the inspired–Slow-Roasted Black Grouper with Ham and Pumpkin Pirlau and Pork Loin with Corn Pudding and Grilled Eggplant. Desserts such as Bourbon Panna Cotta and Sweet Potato Tart with Coconut Crust and Pecan Streusel elevate the best of the South for cooks everywhere.”
The Pecan Streusel caught my eye the minute I saw it and apparently my British husband has been saying it wrong. He was corrected recently when he pronounced it “Pee Can” Apparently, in the south it’s pronounced “Pee Caun” with the emphasis on the last syllable So now you now lol… * Frank Stitt’s Southern Table: Recipes and Gracious Traditions from Highlands Bar and Grill
