Of the 4, Sherman and Sheridan brought the war to the people and caused much suffering and death. Grant simply waited Lee out! Only Thomas destroyed and army (Hood’s) and is the only Union General who never lost a battle. After the war he was honored by his souther counterparts, but remained shunned by his native state, Virginia and family.
