School House Ghost… St. Augustine, Florida
For a city as old as St. Augustine, there is bound to be a lot of ghosts lurking, but the school house didn’t seem to be one of them for some reason, until someone shot this photo. Take a look at the insert… it is our imagination or could something be looking out the window?? For a structure as old as this one, I guess anything is possible!
“The house first appears on St. Augustine’s tax rolls in 1716, but it was constructed before then. By 1788, the building was only “in fair condition,” according to a Spanish map of that time.” Source
I would love to hear from anyone who has visited this school house. Did you feel anything unusual??

I have been here hoping to capture something , but on this outing we didn’t
Hate to burst your ghostbusting bubble but the image that apprears in the window of the old schoolhouse is a manequin that looks like a school teacher. I have lived in St. Augustine for many years and while creepy, its no spook.
I have visited the Old Scool House at night and captured interesting Orbs.
So Todd,
The “object” is a manequin huh? It doesn’t appear to be though, look closer at the outline it doesnt have the color nor shape a manequin has. The figure you see has, like holes in it’s eye sockets and it’s white as snow if Im mistaken all the manequins I’ve known are never that white. Come on get real.
P.S Why come on a site just to burst our “ghostbusting bubble”
Anyway this picture is really neat, I like it!!!

The “school marm” mannequin is actually seated at another window. This, in fact, is a very interesting picture. You just may have caught something here….
I live on Cresent beach really near st.augustine and i almost every week walk down to st.augustine and i went inside this school 1 day.. and all that i really kind of thought was strange was it would get hot then really cold in the next step i took in some places it was really strange.but 1 day i went to this place called the kingsley plantation on st.geaorge island north or jacksonville and there is a legenge that says there was a man that lived there named Zephaniah Kingsley and he was very weathy and had slaves working for him. and my friend told me that sometimes if you go there you will see to red eyes with a body walking toward you. and you can hear the screams of the girls he raped and beat. and i think i saw some “red eyes” ,but it might of been my imagination being so scared about it. anyway you should check that out! i know alot more places in st.augustine where there are ghost just email me!
Okay, I just have to set the record straight about Zephaniah Kingsley. Yes, he was a slave owner, But, he actually was one of the more liberal of his time, he even married one of his slaves.
“Ol’ Red Eyes” is the nickname given to one of the slaves that Zephaniah owned. He was a very angry and mean, almost downright evil man, and some of the other slaves said that he was so evil, and mean that his eyes even glowed red.
One day several slave women on the Kingsley Plantation where raped and killed. The other slaves suspected that it was “Ol’ Red Eyes” Mobbed and Lynched him and hung him in the “Father Oak” or “King Oak” Tree, as they call it at the Plantation tour.
So Zephaniah DID NOT rape anybody.
Also if you speak his name in the Plantation House, his wife gets pretty angry. She has been photographed on the front porch of the house by the rocking chairs.
I somewhat believe this story. I really dont because there is no such thing as red eyes people. But i do believe it might be haunted because it is so old, and i used to go to a haunted school when i was little. I still swear that when i was in the bathroom, i heard a little girl singing. I asked the other people in the bathroom and they said that they didnt hear anything. I thought that it wanted to only connect to me because they probably know that i wont hurt it. I still have the same problem at my house too. My family said that they dont hear anything and they dont see anything. I always wanted to know if spirits only wanted to connect to me. I do belive that that school must be haunted, but at the same time, the ghost in the picture looks so fake. I guess i will just believe it because anything can happen. Especailly in an old school like that one.
Well to clear some things up, ive been in the school house and they do have plenty of manaquins but that my friends is not one. That wa said to be a teacher but when i went there he was on the bottom floor. But something i thought was weird is they did not let us up on the second floor
Yes,that is definitly NOT a mannaquin, the mannaquin is in the other window,I definitly think you caught something, this picture gives me chills!
Patrick,
I live in Jax and I take trips to St. Augustine quite often to enjoy the history.
I’m always in what they call “old town” which is where this school is, on St. George Street to be exact.
I’ve been in many times, most times were as a kid when they took us on field trips to St. Augustine.
Everytime I’ve went in, there’s always been a person to “remind” me and all who come in not to try to go onto the second floor because the boards are so old and rotted.
They don’t want to take a chance and have someone sue their pants off if they fell through a soft spot where the boards were quite weak.
Me and my friend were looking through my pictures that i took of my sister and she noticed a ghost in the window of our picture, i couldnt believe my eyes, go to my photobucket account to see the picture XoxobrownweezyxoxO it looks fake but its black and white and you see her but also see right through her, I decided to look some things up to see if anyone has a picture like me and it looks like you do
(im talking about the school house picture)
I have been to St. Augustine before and the first time I had ever gone there, a manequin was outside of the window upstairs and would ring a school bell. I guess the second time I went and I saw the manequin in the window but the window was closed. Of course it startled me at first thinking it was a ghost but then I remembered when I had seen her ringing the bell when I had first visited ST. Augustine. I was a bit bumed that they took this feature out. Even behind the window or with the window open, the manequin looks freaky. If you want to here some weird and freaky ghost stories in St. Augustine, the best places in my opinion are Ripleys’s Believe it or not museum in Warden Castle, and the Potter’s Wax Museum. The Ripley’s Ghost Train is fun too.
Oh wow, I just saw it. More to the right there is a manequin for sure but to the left of that one the last window pane to the left, there is a face of a child. That is intresting. Good catch, I almost overlooked it.
