A Woman for All Seasons
With Mother’s Day a little less than a week away, I thought that I would go looking for an interesting woman who lives in the south and I think that I found her. Blanche Harris is 89 years old, and is reported to be the oldest active barber in Texas.
And what makes Blanche so special??
“I like to help people,” she said. “Coming here is a little like going to I-Hop. You come in hungry and leave happy.”
And Blanche isn’t only well known for her haircuts, she actually does like to feed people…
“Since opening for business, Ms. Harris has developed a reputation for being a type of community matriarch, dishing out comfort food and practical advice to customers like a favorite aunt rather than a hair stylist.”
Blanche’s famous last words…
“Treat people the way you want to be treated and trust in God,” she said. “Keep him first, talk to him. He’ll be there.”
And I can just bet that Mother’s Day around Blanche’s establishment is going to be one busy place!! I’m sure that she has some stories to tell!!
