I notice this a lot when I travel. Women especially seem to try to wear every piece of jewelry that they own and I really don’t see the sense in it. I don’t even take my wedding rings with me. Expensive jewelry is just too easy to lose or have stolen. Why chance it? I lock it all up and then leave it at home. The jewelry I wear is stuff that I wouldn’t mind losing… because chances are, I will leave at least one pair of earrings on the bedside table at a hotel.

I have never heard of shoe peg corn?? It must be something not available up here in the north, but I’m wondering if you could substitute regular cans of corn. It would certainly make for a very simply salad. Here are the ingredients…
* 2 cans white shoe peg corn
* 2 small cucumbers, diced
* half cup mayonnaise
* 4 green onions, chopped

“Chestnut Lodge is an abandoned insane asylum smack in the heart of Rockville (Montgomery county, 20 miles northwest of Washington, DC; home to highest concentration of Ph.D.’s in the country). It was internationally known (google for “chestnut lodge”), hard wired into the psych community after nearly a century of treating many long-term, profoundly disturbed psych patients and mute, catatonic and “hopeless schizophrenics.” Briefly a resort hotel, it became the quintessential psychiatric sanitarium. This recipe originated in an Atlanta, Georgia restaurant and then was scaled down for family use. The combinations are certainly unusual. We usually stop at lemon cake but to serve it with roasted black plums and ginger ice cream is something that I would never have thought of. If nothing else, the dessert certainly would be colorful. And come to think of it, I don’t think that I have ever tasted ginger ice cream?
Here’s the recipe if you suddenly have a craving for toasted lemon cake and all the trimmings.
