Army engineers say Louisiana levees ready

French Quarter CleanupWith the hurricane season to begin next week, engineers have completed the necessary work on the levees with a few days to spare and I thought that that would be cause for celebration to some extent. But apparently the sting of Katrina hasn’t gone away. Here’s what they had to say…

Some of these things were poorly designed and were almost pre-ordained to fail,’ said Wayne Clough, the head of a National Research Council team formed to assess the corps` management of the disaster. ‘Just because they`ve been restored to their condition pre-Katrina doesn`t mean they are perfectly safe.’

So, it appears that everyone is simply holding their breath hoping that we get a break this year with no hurricanes. But from what I have read, we aren’t in for a quiet ride.

Time will tell!
