Now I’m kind of torn on this. On one hand it would make traveling incredibly easy. But I’m thinking back to a trip to Martinique where the language spoken was French and I really had to struggle… especially when the maids came to the cottage with fresh towels. I did my best to explain to them that we were checking out that day and didn’t need any… They knew less English than I knew French.
But it was an adventure and not one that I will likely forget. And now the memories are flooding back and most of them have to do with the language barrier. So, I say take the translator with you for emergencies, but practice the language of the day at every opportunity. It’s more fun that way!!
Trust me, those memories will stay with you a lifetime.
